New Zealand’s First Water Cremation Service to Launch in Christchurch

In a groundbreaking step forward for both sustainability and funeral care, Christchurch is set to host New Zealand’s first water cremation service from early June. Local funeral directors Bell, Lamb and Trotter will open the innovative facility at their new funeral home, in partnership with Water Cremation Aotearoa—a joint venture led by managing director Andrew Bell and Deborah Richards, who first approached the Ministry of Health for approval in 2018.
