Pet Resomation System Commissioned in the Netherlands
Gentler, Greener Farewells for Pets
Following our initial test installation in Zaandam two years ago, we’re proud to announce the commissioning of our third Aquarest K150 pet Resomation system in Alphen aan den Rijn. The first two systems were recently installed in Boxtel, marking steady progress in the roll out of this innovative technology across the Netherlands.
The K150 offers pet crematoria a more sustainable and gentler alternative to traditional flame cremation. Using the alkaline hydrolysis process, this water-based system significantly reduces environmental impact — with no harmful emissions and far lower energy consumption. It also provides a more respectful and gentle experience, both for the animal and their grieving owners.
The Aquarest K150 is a non-pressurised water cremation system designed specifically for pets, capable of handling up to 150 kg. Each pet is placed in its own individual basket to ensure remains are kept separate. In many cases, even microchips can be recovered and returned to the owner — a small but meaningful detail for families.
Currently, alkaline hydrolysis in non-pressurised systems is not yet fully permitted across EU member states. The five systems operating in the Netherlands are functioning under a temporary study permit, granted to gather safety data and assess the viability of the process. This pilot phase will continue until the end of 2027, after which the EU is expected to review the findings and determine future legislation.
At Resomation, we remain committed to supporting innovation that aligns with both environmental responsibility and compassionate care — even for our smallest family members.
